ในอดีตกาลเมื่อมนุษย์ยังไม่ทราบ การพิมพ์ปฏิทินตั้งโต๊ะ การที่มองวันที่เป็นนั้นมาจากรู้จักการดูดวงดาวเพื่อมองวันเดือนปี
ให้ง่ายดายมากยิ่งกว่าเดิม และเริ่มมีการสร้างเครื่องจับเวลา สร้างการจดบันทึกหรือออกแบบการดูดาวต่างๆเพื่อกระทำการแบ่งฤดูกาล
แบ่งวันเดือนปีต่างๆการพิมพ์ปฏิทินตั้งโต๊ะ ทำให้สามารถระบุออกมาเป็นตัวเลขได้อย่างแจ่มแจ้ง ดำเนินชีวิตประจำวันได้
ง่ายดายมากยิ่งขึ้น ช่วยทำให้มีการจดจำเรื่องราวและใช้ในการเตือนความจำต่างๆได้ดิบได้ดีอีกด้วย

กลับไปในช่วงสมัยก่อนประวัติศาสตร์ โดยมาจากภาษาโรมันของชาวกรีกอดีตกาล ในยุคของชาวภาษากรีกโบราณนั้นยังไม่
มีการใช้การพิมพ์ปฏิทินตั้งโต๊ะ แต่ว่าคนรุ่นเก่ามีการทำปฏิทินบอกวันเวลาขึ้นมา เมื่อถึงกำหนดเวลาจะมีผู้ที่กระทำการร้องบอกวัน
เวลาขึ้น การบอกเวลาในสมัยก่อนมีความจำเป็นมากมายเพื่อเป็นการบอกการขึ้นวันเดือนใหม่เพื่อให้รู้ถึงลูกหนี้ที่ยังมีการ
ติดหนี้ของเจ้าหนี้อยู่ ภาษาอังกฤษเป็น “I Cry” ภาษาไทยหมายความว่า “การส่งเสียงร้องบอก” ภาษาโรมันของชาวภาษากรีกโบราณกาล
เรียกว่า Kalend ภาษาอังกฤษจึงใช้คำว่า Calendar ในภาษาอังกฤษ

ระบุวันเดือนปีขึ้นมาพิจารณาจากระยะต่างๆของพระจันทร์เกี่ยวกับการสังเกตข้างขึ้นข้างแรม ตอนนี้พวกเราสามารถ
ตีความหมายนั้นได้ว่าเป็นรูปแบบของชนิดปฏิทินจันทรคติ โดยเมื่อครบการกำหนดข้างขึ้นเราแรมครบ 12 รอบจะเป็น
การครบฤดูกาลให้เวียนกลับมา
ปฏิทินของประเทศไทยได้ถูกพิมพ์ขึ้นหนแรก 14 เดือนมกราคม พุทธศักราช 2385 ตั้งแต่สมัยรัชกาลที่ 3 ฉะนั้น ทุกๆวันที่ 14
ม.ค.ทุกปี มีการกำหนดให้เป็นวันที่มีความสำคัญเพราะเหตุว่าใช้ปฏิทินตีพิมพ์ขึ้นมาหนแรก เมืองไทยในสมัยสมัยก่อนมี
การใช้ปฏิทินจันทรคติตั้งแต่ยุคสุโขทัยมีการนับเป็นปีตามมหาศักราชและก็จุลศักราช ต่อมาในรัชสมัยรัชกาลที่ 3
พระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวจึงได้มีการโปรดเกล้าโปรดกระหม่อจากแบบปฏิทินเดิมให้แปลงเป็นปฏิทินสุริยคติ มีแบบอย่าง
การใช้มีความล้ำยุคลักษณะสากลตามปฏิทินเกรกอเรียน ในที่สุดจึงมีการจัดทำการพิมพ์ปฏิทินตั้งโต๊ะขึ้นเพื่อใช้งานนั้นเอง
